Saudi Aramco, long known for its leadership in oil exploration, production, and refining, is seeking experienced professionals to join our Downstream Global Base Oil Business. We have an immediate requirement to recruit a lubricant base oil technical expert. Saudi Aramco’s position as a world-leading energy producer offers unique opportunities for growth and integration in downstream.
Upon joining the team in Saudi Arabia you will be given a comprehensive briefing on, and be expected to familiarize yourself with, Saudi Aramco’s current technical programs within the lubricants business as well as future plans and ambitions. You will play an integral part in reviewing such programs and provide your feedback and recommendations. You will be joining the team mandated to build the lubricants business for Saudi Aramco.
In your first 3-6 months you will be meeting with vendors, lubricant reps, blending companies, Research and Development facilities, additives companies and Saudi Aramco joint ventures to develop relationships and build upon your knowledge of the market in Saudi Arabia.
By the end of your first year you will have leveraged your expertize to critique proposals and plans and develop alternative recommendations, where necessary. You will have worked on developing new formulations with joint ventures and collaborators and have played an integral role in driving Saudi Aramco towards an ambitious launch date for product sales.

As the successful candidate you will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or another technical equivalent degree; an advanced degree will be an advantage.
You will have 7+ years’ experience in the technical area of the lubricant industry having designed and developed either lubricant additives and/or lubricant formulations. Familiar with API and ATIEL/ACEA regulations and trends you will have been exposed directly or indirectly to lubricant OEMs approvals, REACH registration, and ATIEL & ACEA activities.
You will have the ability to work within a team, be fluent in English (reading and writing) with excellent communication, presentation, leadership and interpersonal skills. The ability to speak an additional foreign language is preferred.
Self-driven, Emotional Intelligence and Interpersonal Skills are basic requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
Contribute to Business Unit strategy implementation and base oil business organization by:
Advising regarding technology and product trends, formulation development and trends, and potential leveraging improvements.
Identifying and monitoring technical programs such as base oil interchangeability and base oil slates linkage.
Identifying the optimal lubricant formulations, mainly in the automotive sector
Identifying and monitoring formulations approvals (ATIEL, API, OEMs, etc)
Providing technical support for customers
Supporting the Technical Manager with additive companies, industry groups (API/ATIEL), OEMs and external consultants
Supporting the Technical Manager in developing base oil specifications and controls of base oil products (Q&A program etc.).
