We are seeking a Facility life cycle management specialist to join the Research Support Division of the Research & Development (R&D) Engineering Group.
The R&D Engineering Group is responsible for providing the management of engineering projects. We deliver a wide range of projects, including civil construction, electrical, and mechanical assets associated with the R&D facility, or to fulfil experimental research equipment requirements.
Your primary role is to provide mechanical expertise and to manage mechanical-related projects that are requested by the R&D project teams. You will be responsible for developing solutions to complex problems that require a high degree of innovation and ingenuity, and liaise with external partners/vendors from the design phase to the construction deliverable.
As the successful candidate you will hold a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline from a recognized and approved program. An advanced degree is preferred but not considered essential.
You will have 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
A mechanical engineering background, preferably knowledgeable with facility systems (i.e., HVAC, water treatment, rotating and static equipment and firefighting systems) is preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities
You will be required to perform the following:
Perform the subject matter expert duties for mechanical related issues, provide project development liaising with external vendors, suppliers, and creating contracts.
Perform the responsibilities of the Project Manager and assess performance and provide mentoring and training to develop young engineers.
Participate in the engineering design process, including the establishment of engineering design basis, development of the engineering options, and optimization of the selected design.
Manage projects with external partners from the design phase to the construction deliverable.
Participate in planning, cost development, management and scheduling for assigned projects.
Prepare the required specifications and operating instructions for equipment.
Produce detailed project plans to include critical path activities, milestones and stage gates.
Demonstrate excellent organization and time management skills.
